Winter Universiade 2017 live Stream, Almaty 2017 Live The 28th edition of the Winter Universiade is due to begin here tomorrow with approximately 2,000 athletes from around 58 countries competing for medals. The Universiade – an international multi-sport event which is organised for university athletes – is held under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Students of all levels graduating the year before the Universiade and who are between the ages of 17 and 28 can take part in the competitions.


“Kazakhstan has never held events of such scale and level. Few countries can afford it. But Kazakhstan was chosen [as the host country]. The Universiade 2017 Torch Relay will embrace all regions of the country, so that you [athletes] can feel the support of your fans who will inspire you to win,” President Nazarbayev said giving a start to the Universiade 2017 Torch Relay in Astana on Wednesday. “168 members of the Kazakh national team will compete at the Universiade and each of them deserves to win. Within 3.5 hours torchbearers will pass the Flame through the main streets of Kazakh capital. The relay route in Astana will be divided into two parts. The first part will start from the Nazarbayev University and finish at the Baiterek monument. The second starts from Baiterek and finishes at the city administration on the right bank. The total length of the Torch Relay in Astana is 12 kilometers. And 60 people will carry the Universiade Flame among them are students, public figures and famous athletes incluging Daniyar Yeleussinov, Vasiliy Levit, Alibek Nauryzbayuly and Moldir Mekenbayeva.


More than 2000 athletes from more than 55 countries are expected to take part in the Winter Universiade competitions in Almaty. Approximately 3000 volunteers will be involved, including foreigners and representatives of regions. In addition, over 30000 guests and tourists are expected to attend the festivities.
